Archery club aims for new targets

The Moranbah Bowhunters and Field Archers are taking the art of shooting to the next level, having purchased a number of new 3D targets thanks to a $1,500 Stanmore Resources Isaac Plains Community Grant received last year.
The club, which has been in operation for more than 40 years, aspired to challenge its 30-plus members with the 3D targets, many of whom were more familiar with shooting traditional vinyl targets.
President Cory Bond said the community grant had allowed the club to introduce a new game to members for the first time.
“There are all sorts of competitions in archery and 3D, which have their own set of rules and targets, and it’s something we haven’t previously had,” he said.
“3D targets are much more challenging, so it’s fantastic to see our members have a go and compete against each other.”
Members recently put some of the new targets to the test during their first shoot in almost two years, with previous shoots placed on hold due to the pandemic. “The grants have been a big help for us. It has been especially hard to fundraise during COVID-19 because we haven’t been able to host any competitions, so they are an excellent initiative for the local Moranbah community,” Cory said.
